Backpack Program
Many families don’t have the resources to prepare their children for the start of school or summer camp. Some families have to move numerous times during the year and they have to put their belongings in large trash bags to move from place to place. The Backpack program was started to help support families throughout the whole year with these needs. By working with local social service agencies, community leaders, and our generous donors, we have been able to help with some of these basic needs.
Annually, we have teamed up with Betty Poirier’s Supply Sack Program and started donating backpacks and supplies, stuffed animals, and gift cards for clothing. This program collects supplies like paper, pens, pencils, and erasers for families with foster children in local communities for the beginning of school.
Through the generous donations within our community, we have been able to supply sports bags to children for summer camp that include towels, sun block, and water bottles.
During Christmas, we have provided foster children with small suitcases with wheels to assist with transitions from location to location or just a place to store their belongings. We hope to expand this to a year-round program. This part of our program could not be possible without the generous donations from local businesses in our community.
We hope to grow the Backpack program to a more consistent year-round offering to take some of the burden off those families in need.
